4 18-0533 Subject: Resolution Approving A Moratorium On The Sale Of Public Land
From: Councilmember Kaplan
Recommendation: Adopt A Resolution Approving A 180-Day Moratorium On Council Approval Of The Long-Term Ground Lease Or Sale Of City Real Property, Or Until The City Council Has Adopted A Public Lands Policy If Adopted Within The 180-Day Moratorium Period
I strongly support the resolution that approve a moratorium on the sale or long-term lease of public land. The city is in the middle of discussing establishing public land policy and any city-owned land must not be sold or leased until a policy that satisfies people in Oakland is established. It is not clear a 180-day moratorium will give enough time to people of Oakland in establish an agreeable policy, but without it, there is no chance. It makes no sense if any council member votes against this resolution, unless she/he has a concern only about the interest of business people.
