Where are the Affordable Housing Fees?

We have deep concern that the developer has recently reneged on its numerous statements to provide up to $20,000,000 in fees for affordable housing arguing that they were not in that business. Because of this we believe many Oakland residents were led to believe that affordable housing was going to be provided in the form of fees for building affordable units elsewhere in the city and or by providing housing funds to Oakland school teachers and public safety personnel who may not have otherwise afforded the homes at the Oakknoll site. The City staffs “belief” that advance payment would compromise the intended benefits should be rigorously challenged. The City needs affordable housing now and the promised upfront fees were to provide for that. Therefore we ask the City Council to withhold project approval until an agreement can be reached with the developer for accelerated payment of the affordable housing fees
