I implore the council to honor the findings of the public health professionals, and the recommendations of the city staff, and support the ordinance and its application to the bulk terminal on the old Oakland Army Base. Global citizens, 20 years from now, will look back and applaud your decision.

As a third generation Oakland resident, I strong support the ban on coal and coke handling and storage. We must protect our community and the environment. We should focus on renewable and clean energy. There is no such thing as clean coal.

I strongly support all actions to prohibit the storage and handling of coal and coal-related products in the City of Oakland, its terminals or the Port of Oakland. Coal is an outdated energy source and should be phased. For the health and future safety of Oakland and its residents, please ban the transport, storage and handling of coal in Oakland.

I am in strong support of the ban on storage and handling of coal and coke. No one deserves to profit at the expense of our health and environment. Oakland should be setting an example for a sustainable economy not trafficking in dirty energy sources that accelerate climate change.

As a district 3 resident since 1974, I support prohibition of coal and coke handling, storage, shipping, transportation through our city and our neighborhoods. We must not sacrifice public health--and children's health--to greed. The coal industry is a dead end with a terrible history of using bankruptcy to avoid environmental cleanup. Why support global warming? Taxpayer-funded property should not be used to make our lives worse, while exacerbating sea-level rise. Let's find 117 other paying jobs, and work for a healthy city.

I am an Oakland resident. I strongly support the resolution to prohibit the storage and handling of coal and coke in Oakland. In addition to negative health impacts from exposure to coal dust and particles, the burning of coal contributes to global climate change, which will have devastating effects on communities around the world (including Oakland). Oakland must not participate in the export, handling, or storage of coal or coke.

I strongly support the move to prevent coal and coke from being stored and/or transported in Oakland. As noted in the recommendations by City Staff, this clearly is dangerous to the health of Oakland residents.

We need this ordinance to protect our health from the effects of shipping and burning coal. Once we are are assured there will be no coal terminal, let's see how to use this piece of the new port development to produce clean, economically sustainable jobs.
