On 10/24, Richmond became the first city in the U.S. to pass a resolution condemning the genocide of the Palestinian people and acknowledging the apartheid state of Israel's continued history of U.S.-funded violence. Oakland must pass a similar resolution affirming its solidarity with the Palestinian people, and put pressure on Congress as well as the state of CA to stop funding the genocide of Palestinians.

Agreed! Representative Barbara Lee recently signed on to Resolution 786. I am reminded of how Representative Lee was the only member of Congress to vote against invasion of both Iraq and Afghanistan. She faced death threats, insults and hate mail, but decades later it is documented that she did the right thing.
Let’s show the country and the world that Oakland knows how to do the right thing, and that these tired xenophobic and Islamophobic tropes don’t work in 2023. I ask you with the utmost urgency to consider a resolution calling for an immediate cease fire, entry of humanitarian assistance into Gaza, and ending American military aid and weapons to Israel. Thank you.

Agreed! We urge the city council of Oakland to pass a resolution IMMEDIATELY and to make statements condemning genocide and ethnic cleaning of Palestinians! We should also call for an end to funding in Israel!

I urge the City of Oakland to draft, sponsor, and pass a resolution condemning the genocide of the Palestinian people. The City of Richmond recently spoke out and was bold in its leadership. Be courageous with your power as elected leaders and speak out as a governing body representing the people of Oakland. This action is the bare minimum and an easy way to show solidarity with indigenous people and be on the right side of history. Oakland has birthed and nourished many fights for justice and has taught the world what solidarity through direct action looks like. Resolutions like this protect people from censorship, doxxing, and general silencing of anyone who speaks up for Palestine amidst the genocide. No business as usual. No bombs for Israel leaving the Port of Oakland. Free free Palestine.

Please do the bare minimum and pass this to show our solidarity with a people who have been fighting oppression for 75 years. The Hamas attack on Oct 7 was brutal but the response has been disproportionate and will endanger Israelis and Americans because it is immoral. Oakland must speak out as Belgium Spain and dozens of other countries have done and numerous other cities, like our neighbor Richmond.

Oppose. City Council’s deliberations must be based on reality and truth. Gaza is not occupied; it has been free to rule itself since 2005. Only one side in this Gazan conflict seeks the deaths of Palestinian civilians, Hamas. Hamas, in violation of international law, builds its headquarters under hospitals and schools and stores weapons next to an MRI machine. The Israeli people and army do not seek Palestinian civilian deaths, dropped leaflets on northern Gaza telling the residents to go south. and established safe corridors for the civilians to escape without being shot at by Hamas. Only Hamas, designated by the U.S. government as a foreign terrorist organization, is dedicated to genocide, the killing of all Jews in Israel. This is a goal stated over and over again. The governing authorities of the Palestinians do not seek to coexist in peace with Israel. They seek to eliminate and annihilate Israel. From President Bill Clinton, “I killed myself to give the Palestinians a state. I had a deal they turned down that would have given them all of Gaza... between 96 and 97% of the West Bank, compensating land in Israel, you name it.” A cease fire will prevent Israel from destroying Hamas and liberating the people of Gaza from its oppression. City Council, do you not want the end of the Hamas terrorists who rape and kill, burn adults and children alive, behead babies and use their own citizens as human shields?

As an American Jew who chose to live in Oakland because of the long history of resistance and solidarity with all oppressed people it is my duty to encourage you to support a resolution for a ceasefire so that Palestine can move forward towards self determination.
